Actress Taapsee Pannu defends Rhea Chakraborty; BJP leader Ram Kadam gives befitting reply

After film director Ram Gopal Varma, and South Indian actress Lakshmi Manchu, it is Bollywood’s famous actress Taapsee Pannu who has come out in defence of Rhea Chakraborty, the main accused in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case.

In a tweet, the Thappad actress writes that she didn’t know Sushant on a personal level, nor does she know Rhea. However, she thinks the constant media trial taking over the judicial procedure is not fair.

Taapsee also retweeted South actor Lakshmi Manchu’s message sent as a tweet after the airing of Rhea Chakraborty’s televised interview taken by senior journalist Rajdeep Sardesai.

Lakshmi, in her tweet, has prayed for justice for Sushant but demanded justice for Rhea as well. “I am pained by what we have become. How are we being authentic if we don’t speak our heart when we have a voice to lend. I’m standing up for my colleague,” wrote Manchu in her message to her fans.

Last week, filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma had shared a video on his YouTube channel condemning the media trial of Rhea Chakraborty calling it “hunting and killing of Rhea Chakraborty”.

Soon after Taapsee Pannu criticized the media trial of the main accused Jalebi actress in the case, BJP leader Ram Kadam responded to her. In calm but strong words, the social activist and politician pointed out that it was because of the constant and strong media coverage that the case is now being investigated by the CBI. He also mentioned that the death of the actor was dismissed as suicide by the “cunning” Maharashtra government.

The actress got mixed responses from her fans as well. Few applauded her take, others were not very convinced. One fan tweeted a screengrab of an extended message meant for the actress, and expressed his disappointment with her indifference.

“I’ve watched, loved & supported ur work, but the silence regarding asking for justice for SSR left me not wanting to watch ANY film from India, at ALL,” wrote the fan.

Another fan alleged that Bollywood’s solidarity with the accused was “biased”.

A lot has been said and heard since the Chhichhore actor’s untimely demise on June 13th this year. Though first dismissed as suicide, the case is being probed by the CBI. Investigations are underway.
