Bollywood is full of Defense kids; why aren’t they condemning attack on Navy Veteran

Attack on Navy Veteran

In a shocking and shameful incident, an Indian Navy veteran was attacked and beaten up by political goons after he shared a political cartoon through the texting and calling app Whatsapp. The incident took place in Mumbai and is recorded on the camera. The video of the retired Navy personal has gone viral on the internet and news channels have been reporting on this deplorable attack on blaring decibels for the last 24 hours.

However, it is shocking that not one of the countless defense kids who rule Bollywood as A-list celebrities have condemned the violence or shared concern for the former defense personnel.

Priyanka Chopra Jonas, have boasted off her Army background in multiple interviews in India and international platforms. Her late father, Ashok Chopra was an Army doctor. Bollywood’s successful actress and producer Anushka Sharma completed her schooling from Army School Bangalore.  The Bulbul producer has stated that being a military kid has played a significant role in shaping her individuality and personality.

“Lunch box” actress Nimrat Kaur is daughter of a national hero. Her father BHupender Singh was an Indian Army officer who was martyred by militants in Kashmir in 1994.

Strong and independent Sushmita Sen is class apart from any average Bollywood beauty. Her headstrongness can be attributed to schooling in New Delhi’s Air Force Golden Jubilee Institute. Her father Shubeer Sen is an Indian Air Force veteran. Former Miss Universe Lara Dutta comes from a family of Air Force officers also. While her father L.K Dutta was a Wing Commander, her sister Sabrina is serving the Indian Airforce as well.

Chitrangada Singh, Gul Panag, and feisty feminist known for lending her voice to pressing causes, MTV Roadies host Neha Dhupia share a prestigious military upbringing.

In fact, Neha Dhupia is perhaps the only one who has lived the Indian Navy life given her father Pradip Singh Dhupia was a Commander in the Navy. Given her background, strong and revolutionary personality, it was expected that she, if not others, will speak out for the Navy veteran who was thrashed by local goons for exercising his freedom of speech. But Neha, otherwise vocal about social issues on social media, chose silence in this issue.

Shocking, to say the least. Aren’t they icons? Aren’t they flagbearers of justice and freedom to fundamental rights? Don’t they talk about all this ever so often? Then why the deafening silence? What is stopping them?

Thank god for Preity Zinta. The former Bollywood actress, who is settled in the US after marriage to Gene Goodenough is the only “Army brat” from Filmdom who was courageous enough to denounce this act of violence and cowardice.

Refusing to be silenced, Kangana Ranaut too, took to social media to voice out against the attack.
